You do not need special software to loop a YouTube video: YouTube has a Loop option built in, on the website and in the app. An extension becomes useful when you want more control, such as repeating a video a set number of times, stopping after a timer or looping automatically every time. This guide covers both, starting with the built-in way.
Loop a video on the YouTube website
- Open the video on youtube.com.
- Right-click anywhere on the video.
- Choose Loop. A tick appears next to it and the video will restart when it ends.
- Right-click again and untick Loop to stop.
Loop a video in the YouTube app
- Start the video and tap it once to show the controls.
- Tap the gear icon for settings, then Additional settings if you see it.
- Switch on Loop video.
The exact menu layout changes between app versions, but the option sits in the video’s settings menu on both Android and iPhone.
How do you loop a whole playlist?
Open the playlist and click the Loop playlist button, the circular arrows at the top of the playlist panel. Click it once to repeat the whole list; on some versions a second click repeats only the current video. If you want a single video on repeat as part of a routine, add it alone to a new playlist and loop that.
Repeat songs in YouTube Music
YouTube Music has its own repeat button in the player, the two circular arrows. Tap it once to repeat the whole queue or playlist, and again to repeat only the current song; a small “1” shows when single-song repeat is on. Tap a third time to switch repeat off. This works in the app and on music.youtube.com, and it is the easiest way to keep one track playing while you work.
Looping for practice
Musicians, dancers and language learners often loop a video to practise along. Pair the Loop option with the playback speed setting in the gear menu: slow the video to 0.75x or 0.5x while you learn a passage, then return to normal speed once you have it. The pitch stays the same, so music still sounds right, just slower.
When an extension helps
Looper for YouTube is the most popular Chrome extension for this, with about 400,000 users and a 4.6 rating (September 2026). It adds a loop button under every video and a few extras:
- Loop automatically every time you open a video, without clicking anything.
- Repeat a video a set number of times, then stop.
- Stop looping after a set amount of time, useful for music at bedtime.
| Method | Where | Repeat count or timer |
|---|---|---|
| Right-click Loop | YouTube website | No, loops until you stop it |
| Loop video setting | YouTube app | No |
| Loop playlist | Website and app | No |
| Looper for YouTube | Chrome and Edge | Yes |
Why is the Loop option missing?
- You right-clicked outside the video frame. Right-click on the picture itself.
- An extension replaced YouTube’s menu. Try in an incognito window, where most extensions are off.
- You are watching an ad or a live stream, where looping is not offered.
Frequently asked questions
Can I loop only part of a video?
Not with YouTube’s own tools. Some looping extensions let you set a start and end point; check the feature list before installing.
Do loop plays count as views?
YouTube does not publish how it counts repeated plays, and it filters views it considers artificial, so looping is not a reliable way to raise view counts.
For most people, right-clicking and choosing Loop is all it takes to loop a YouTube video. Add an extension only if you want automatic looping or a repeat limit. For more YouTube tools, see our list of free YouTube extensions and our guide to picture-in-picture.
