Disclosure: Moon VPN is made by the team behind App How To Use It.
Moon VPN is a free proxy extension for Microsoft Edge. You click the moon, and the traffic of your Edge browser goes out through a server in the United States. You click it again, and your normal connection is back. There is no account, no trial and no paid plan. This guide explains what the extension does, how to install and use it, and where its limits are, so you can decide whether it fits what you need.

How to install Moon VPN in Edge
- Open the extension’s page on Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Click Get, then Add extension in the confirmation box.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in the Edge toolbar and pin the extension, so the moon icon stays visible.
How to connect and disconnect
- Click the moon icon in the toolbar.
- Press the moon button, or click the United States row in the list.
- When the moon fills and the badge shows ON, your Edge traffic is going through the proxy.
- Press Disconnect, or the moon again, to return to your normal connection.
The popup also shows your own IP address while you are not connected, and a refresh button that downloads the newest server list. If the server you are using stops carrying traffic, the extension switches you to another one on its own. It only reports “Connected” after checking that your traffic really leaves through the chosen server.
What Moon VPN does not do
- It does not ask for a sign-in, an email address or a payment.
- It does not run code inside the pages you open, so it cannot read pages, inject ads or change search results.
- It does not keep a log of the sites you visit and does not collect analytics.
- It does not protect other apps, games or your whole computer: only Edge is routed.
- It does not promise to unblock any particular website or streaming service.
Is Moon VPN a real VPN?
Technically it is a browser proxy. A system-wide VPN app encrypts and routes everything your device sends, while this extension changes the address that websites see only for traffic from Edge. That makes it quick to switch on and off, but it is not a tool for anonymity: whoever runs a proxy server can see which sites are being contacted, even if the extension itself stores nothing. If you need protection for every app on public Wi-Fi, a full VPN client is the better choice; our guide to VPNs for Windows and the explainer on VPS vs VPN cover the differences.
Is Moon VPN available for Chrome?
Not at the moment. The Chrome Web Store version is no longer listed, so older links to it no longer work. On Chrome you can use Lucky VPN & Proxy, which is also made by our team and is available on the Chrome Web Store. Unlike the Edge extension, it has several countries and a paid option after a one-day trial. For a wider comparison, see our list of free VPN extensions.
Frequently asked questions
Is Moon VPN free?
Yes. There is no paid tier, no trial period and no feature behind a paywall.
Which countries can I connect to?
Only the United States. The extension does not offer a choice of countries today.
Does it keep logs?
According to its store listing, it does not keep a log of visited sites and does not collect analytics, telemetry or personal data.
Will it work with streaming sites?
It may or may not. The extension does not claim to unblock any specific service, and many streaming sites block known proxy addresses. Follow the terms of the sites you use.
In short, Moon VPN is a simple, free way to give Edge a US address with one click and nothing to sign up for. If that is what you need, install it from Edge Add-ons; if you need more countries or protection for your whole device, choose a full VPN instead.
